Phew, after coming home from a month-long holiday only to find that my router crapped out on me while I was gone, I finally got my net working again.

• DB Patched to 18.03.01 - Christmas items are up (sorry for the late patching)

Well, it's been a whole day now since I started the overhaul, and the DB is still not ready yet.

I have to wait for BigDump to import a 1.2 GB sql file (300 lines every 2 seconds)
because the previous attempts from yesterday to import a large DB via SSH have exceeded the query execution time limits.

I have to wait until this finishes before I can start testing to see if everything went OK and re-open the resources publicly.

this means cidb.xyphos.com will be offline too.

The improved version of my site is open to the public!
now excuse me while I go face-desk.

btw, if you use IE, I'm aware of the fact that it doesn't play nicely with the other browsers nor does it follow RFC standards and that's why it looks the way it does.

I'll see about getting the IE-specific special work-arounds that I really should not have to code if M$ would just learn to follow suit.

Mechanics Update: Searches are now 1000+ times faster!
I figured out a very useful database trick that allows partial/fragmented words on items' names to be searched via FULLTEXT index without adding any extra data or hacking my host :p

the downside to this is, one of the words being searched HAS to be at least 4 LETTERS long.
but I'm pretty sure that's not much of an inconvenience.

Also, this trick was added to the CIDB so the bots will work faster too!

Ok, so...
1 year spent analyzing the items DB before I created this website
1 year with the old version as a beta, during which I was devising this new version, which was supposed to be the final version

...and I still have a f-ton of bugs to fix, mostly db schema problems.

it seems that there will be another version of this site coming in the future, but for now I want to sit back and observe the problems going on with the current version and compare to the old version before I attempt to release a final.

Beta version pretty much works like AO's testlive where site changes will be posted there for testing purposes before it actually goes live.

NOTE:
Due to the fact that beta is it's own isolated instance, registration between live and beta DOES NOT carry over.

However, if you've registered on live version before May 4, 2010
then you're automatically registered on the beta version cuz it was just a copy job. anyone registering after May 4, 2010 will have to register on beta and live separately.
